On 25 October, Roots & Shoots celebrated the International Day of Peace. We made peace dove puppets to share with our friends and family. And we talked about how to spread peace in our community. Here are some of the ways our members will spread peace in the upcoming week.
"I will smile at people when I see them, even if I don't know them."
"I will say 'hi' to people when I pass them on the street or in that hallway."
"I will make breakfast for myself so that my parents can sleep in."
"I will ask people how their day is and really listen to the answer."
"I will have a positive attitude about things even when they seem negative."
"I will offer my help and skills to anyone who needs them."
"I will hold both doors for the people behind me, not just the first one."
"I will give more hugs."
How will YOU spread peace in your community?
Almost 1 year ago, Seneca Roots and Shoots built its brand-new greenhouse. See how it happened!
Thinking about PEACE
We have been thinking a lot about peace in Roots & Shoots—peace within ourselves and peace in our community.
We considered how to feel peaceful within by reading Moody Cow Meditates by Kerry Lee McLean. Moody Cow has a super bad day and acts out in anger and frustration. We could all understand how he feels. Thankfully, the adults in Moody Cow's life had a suggestion. He put some glitter in a jar of water to represent all of his crazy, angry, frustrated throughs, shook them up and sat quietly to watch them settle. Sure enough, his real crazy thoughts settled too. We tried this ourselves and it really works!

Help Grow Roots & Shoots!
Seneca Roots & Shoots invites you to support our activities. Since the club formed in 2009, we have made our program available to all, free of charge and we will continue offering great programs with no fees required; however, to make this happen, we need your help. Our organization is all-volunteer; we invite you to join by contributing time, materials, or money to help. Contact us if you'd like to help out or use the handy donate button to contribute whatever amount you might like. All of us at Seneca Roots & Shoots are most grateful. Seneca Roots & Shoots is a 501(3)(c) organization in partnership with the Geneva Boys & Girls Club. Any amount you contribute is tax-deductible.
Seneca Roots & Shoots is the local chapter of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, an international environmental education and service organization sponsored by the Jane Goodall Institute. Roots & Shoots believes that everyone, working together, can make a difference in solving even our most difficult problems. Roots & Shoots is a grass roots organization. Local chapters, like Seneca, identify issues in their communities and work on projects to help animals, the human community and the environment. Our group includes children from age three through college students and beyond. We meet weekly—Fridays 3:30 - 5 p.m. —during the school year at the Geneva Community Center in Geneva, New York. Please join us!
